FAQs

GENERAL

Location
I am located in the West end of Toronto and work out of a Jewellery Studio & Gallery called Made You Look. I specialize in custom jewellery and would be thrilled to meet with you to discuss potential custom projects or to show you my available and ever-changing inventory. Not to worry if you’re not local, I regularly work with custom clients worldwide and am happy to guide you through the experience on-line.
Repairs & Care
Your piece of jewellery is guaranteed against any major manufacturing defects but is not guaranteed for the normal wear and tear life brings. Jewellery is delicate and needs to be cared for properly. Although I am always happy to clean and check your precious pieces, I recommend that you do the same at home regularly. Soak your jewellery in a warm water bath for about 15 minutes. Make a paste with a drop of dish soap and a little baking soda and gently scrub the piece, inside and out, using a soft toothbrush. This will bring it back to its original sparkle and give you a clearer sense if anything needs a professional touch.
I will replace melee diamonds (2mm and under) within 6 months of purchase at no charge. Centre stones, however, are not covered. Please make sure you have your piece added to your home insurance policy in case of major damage, loss or theft.
I do not offer repairs on jewellery I haven’t made myself. That said, Made You Look has an incredible team of repair specialists, goldsmiths and setters in-house. They are always happy to take wonderful care of your special pieces.
Appraisals
A full appraisal and certificate is included for pieces over $1000CAD. You will need to send in a copy of the appraisal to have your special piece of jewellery added to your insurance plan for coverage.
Sizing
The first sizing is always complimentary, on-the-house! If you are a local Torontonian and can make it into the studio, I am always happy to help with an in-person finger sizing. If you are out of town and can’t make it in, I would recommend ordering a ring sizer online so you can size yourself at home or go into your local jewellery store to have a professional help you. Things to be sure of when being sized: the ring should be a little bit of a push going over the knuckle, move around freely while on and be a pretty decent twist and tug coming off.  Please note: wider bands are going to feel tighter than narrower bands.
Domestic Shipping
All shipments within Canada are complimentary. Items under $500CAD will be shipped via Canada Xpress Post and will typically take 2-4 business days depending on your location. I will provide you with a tracking number and a signature will be required for delivery. For items above $500CAD I will use Fedex Overnight Xpress with tracking number and required signature for maximum insurance coverage.
International Shipping
Rates start at $85CAD for over-the-border shipments and, depending on the value of the piece and the destination, it can go up to $150CAD. FedEx Overnight Xpress is the best for speediness and insurance coverage. Signature will be required upon delivery.
*Please note: When shipping across borders, things can get caught up in customs for an extra day or two so it’s a good idea to plan in advance for critical timeline purchases. International purchases are also subject to import duties, taxes and charges that aren’t included in the price of each piece or the shipping fees and are the client’s responsibility. To get an approximate quote of what these costs could be in your country you can use an online duty calculator. These charges are typically collected by the shipping company upon delivery.
Payments & Financing
Items can be purchased directly from the website or from selected retailers websites using credit card or debit. Unfortunately, I don’t offer financing at this time.
Returns & Exchanges
You can return a piece of jewellery if it was purchased from the ready-to-ship inventory and if it has not been worn or sized to fit. As soon as something has been altered it is not returnable. Any shipping associated with a return is the client's responsibility.
*Please note: Returns, credits and exchanges are not possible for custom pieces. I will always go above and beyond to make sure you’re thrilled with your custom experience and the finished piece.

CUSTOM
How are custom pieces priced?
I always like to say that I can work within anyone’s budget but there are definitely costs associated with high-end jewellery. It is helpful for me to know what your comfortable budget is before going into a custom project. Because every gemstone is unique and graded for its own characteristics, each one is priced differently. I generally separate the costs in two: center stone + mount. The price for the mount includes all the materials and labour needed to create the finished piece.  There are a few initial deposits made at the beginning of the process to ensure you are committed to the job and the full payment of the balance owing (minus the deposits) is required before receiving the piece. Unfortunately, I don’t have the ability to offer financing plans at this time. Simply checkout, purchasing the gem you desire. From there I will reach out to you and get the process started on designing the custom piece of your dreams!
What is the payment structure to customize a piece?
Payment structure will often consist of a series of smaller deposits for custom. Depending on the project, there could be a stone sourcing deposit of up to $300 and a digital rendering deposit of $300. This ensures that you are sticking around for the entire process and are committed to compensating me for my time. I will require a 50% of the quoted total cost of the project before officially moving forward. The deposits are not refundable and will come off the final balance owing once the piece is complete.
What is the turn-around time for a custom piece?
Depending on the complexity of the design and the gemstone sourcing, the custom process can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks.
Can I return or exchange my custom pieces?
Returns, credits and exchanges are not possible for custom pieces. I will always go above and beyond to make sure you’re thrilled with your custom experience and the finished piece.
Can you create a custom piece with a provided family jewel(s)?
I am happy to discuss working with your heirloom gems and metal to bring new life to your sentimental materials. There are many considerations when working with preloved materials and it is always best for me to see things in person before officially committing to the project. I take incredible care of every piece when it is in my possession and assure you I will advise you on any structural concerns before moving forward. I will not be responsible for any damage to stones when being removed from existing settings or in the resetting process.
